English/Topic:

Part 1: Telling a story

By now, you should have an idea about who David Attenborough is, one of the most respected natural history broadcasters on TV. For the rest of this week, you will be preparing to provide your own narration in the style of David Attenborough, about a sea-creature of your choice.

What makes the narration of Attenborough so powerful, is that they teach us about a behavioural aspect of the creature in the form of a story.  Can you write a sentence summarise the story each of the clips?

Part 2: Research your sea creature

This is the point at which you get to choose which sea creature you would like to research and provide a blue planet style narration for. It could be a mammal, fish, reptile, mollusc or echinoderm, but must live in the sea (so you can’t choose an elephant!...I wonder if you can guess what I would choose…)

Once you have chosen your sea creature, you are going to need to research it. The information you collect will need to help you come up with a “story” to tell about your chosen creature, so you will need to find out about its behaviour.

Questions to get you started:

  • What habitat does it live in? (There are many different habitats within our seas and oceans, that will affect the behaviour of your creature. Also, think about how you would describe that habitat to your audience)
  • How does your creature move in the sea? (You may need to find out about how your species is adapted to move in the water…this can also affect it’s behaviour)
  • What does your creature eat? (This could help massively with your story telling ideas… does it have to catch its prey? How does it catch its prey? Does it work alone or with others? Again, you may need to find out about adaptations your creature has that enable it to feed successfully)
  • Does your creature have any predators? (Most creatures have predators-even the great white shark does…well done if you guessed that as being the creature I would choose! What other animals pose a threat to your chosen creature? How do they try to protect themselves? Again, this could help with some ideas for your story telling)

 

Maths:

Having listened to your feedback, some of you preferred the white rose maths, and some preferred the NCETM videos. So, I am going to offer a choice. You can either do the white rose or  the NCETM videos. There is no right or wrong option, it is what best suits you. Either lesson will benefit your child.
